Corral & Trails
Camp Olson has miles of scenic and majestic trails to accommodate riders of all levels throughout our 1250 acres of property. Two riding rings and a round riding pen are used to further develop the skills of the rider.
Horseback riding is one of our most popular programs at Camp Olson. Horseback riding is offered for beginning, intermediate, and advanced riders. As riders excel through the various riding levels the requirements and objectives increase providing new challenges for each camper. The main objectives for this program are to provide a safe and fun learning experience.
Camp Olson leases 25 horses each summer and trained and certified staff work with campers Instruction includes horse sense (the basis of horsemanship), horse health, understanding different breeds, horse colors and markings, horse terminology, parts of the horse, grooming, horse tack, gaits, and horsemanship riding and safety procedures. The program is structured to provide instruction time in the morning and recreational riding in the afternoon.
Through this experience riders learn discipline and how to care for the welfare of animals. The objectives of the program incorporate the YMCA values of respect caring and responsibility.
